Testimonials |
|
"I haven't been playing for very long, but I already
feel confident and am learning more each week. Sam taught me
everything I know about playing bass and the role of the
bassist as far as keeping the pocket groove. He's a badass."
-J. Bruce, Chicago, IL

Choosing The Right Instructor: |
Choosing the right
Instructor is very important. You will want to meet with
an instructor before you spend a dime on music lessons.
Unlike many instructors I will not waste your time and
money, and each lesson will be packed with information
and tools that will improve your playing every time. I
want you to come see why I am the best choice for
your private music lessons. Schedule your free lesson at the
bottom of this page.
I provide
customized lessons for adults and children of any
ability. If you are looking to learn how to play
Upright Bass, Beginner Electric Bass, also: Lyric
writing/songwriting and Jazz Theory
My name is Sam Rodriguez, I have been teaching
people the beautiful art of bass playing and
lyric writing for over five years. I have been
a bassist for over ten years and a lyricist
since I was a young child.
I attended Columbia College in Chicago and was a
jazz studies major under the tutilage of Dr.
William Russo, who was an apprentice of Duke
Ellington and Billy Strayhorn in the '60s. I
studied with Chicago Symphony Orchestra bassist
Greg Sarchet (a graduate from the famed Juliard
School of Music). I also have studied with the
premiere jazz bassist of Chicago, Larry Gray,
and have had the pleasure of watching
performances by the most elite bassists in the
world, including Ray Brown, Percy Heath, Mark
Johnson, Christian McBride, Lonnie Plaxico,
Eddie Gomez, John Patitucci, and my favorite,
Dave Holland, whom I have studied and
scrutinized for the last several years,
exploring the mysteries of odd-metric groove
playing.
I am also savvy with other bass playing styles
such as: salsa, hip-hop, funk, Brazillian
styles, etc. |
